STATEMENT

I am a visual artist of 5 years experience working in Chile. I have participated in 13 collective exhibitions and 3 solo exhibition. I have participated in three residences, two in Chile and one in the United States in 2012 (Vytlacil) and currently doing a residency in Rotterdam, Kaus Australis.

 

About  my work. Except on certain occasions, I work mainly with two-dimensional images. I develop a plastic exercise where the  image manipulation is essential: taking an image and translate it  from one medium to another, such as photography to painting or a painting to a graphic medium, change of scale, synthesise or expand it, as well as from one language to another, from design to painting and vice versa. I´m  interested in the process where one thing  becomes another; looking with detention which is what is lost and what is gained.

 

There is no established system regarding the selection of images of which I feel attracted; photographs taken in the street, some notes on a paper, screenshots Internet, some forgotten folder in the computer file downloads, or a funny picture that has come whatsapp me ....
About  the treatment of images, my work focuses its  on reflection  around the quantity of information they possess; it is rather a question, what exactly we need to understand the nature of an image?

In this context, one of the main objectives is to analyze image parameters related to Ambivalent aesthetic concepts as "badly done" and "sloppy" or if you like, a certain canon of "good (or bad) taste". Ideas that both in the design field and in the context of the recent history of painting  are in a continuing change of meaning, are discarded and re-validate. Thus, the quality of the resulting images fluctuates between high and low definition; This ambivalence and image production systems are some of my considerations when producing art.
